Jack the Ripper

Whitechapel 1888

In 1654, Lewis and Thomas Fossan constructed Fossan Street which over time became corrupted into Fashion Street. A common doss-house street, it could be entered from Commercial Street or Brick Lane. It was outside the Queen’s Head public house, corner of Fashion Street and Commercial Street, that George Hutchinson said he watched Mary Jane Kelly, accompanied by an unknown man, enter Dorset Street on her way to her room in Miller’s Court. Curiously, Hutchinson followed the pair and, seeing them enter Miller’s Court, maintained a lonely vigil outside the court until either boredom or the rain forced him to retire.
