Mitre Square was where Jack the Ripper committed his fourth murder. A gloomy place, Mitre Square was just within the City of London. It had three entrances: the first from Mitre Street, the second from Duke Street and the third from St James’s Place. Leaving Mitre Square and heading along Aldgate, Aldgate High Street and Whitechapel High Street was Goulston Street. At the furthest end of Goulston Street, in Wentworth Model Dwellings, near Wentworth Street, a piece of blood-stained apron was found. Above it, chalked on the wall, was an anti-Semitic message. Hotly debated is whether or not Jack the Ripper chalked the message after discarding the piece of apron where it was found by the police.
